The Stags dedicated auction team have been putting their skillset to good use this summer by conducting some unique and varied sales including those of a garden nursery sale, restaurant equipment sale and an agricultural engineer equipment sale in Gloucestershire. All of the aforementioned were executed by means of our successful online timed auction format, often used due to its methodical, efficient and organised nature.
The full dispersal sale of Endsleigh Garden Nurseries in West Devon saw a complete sale of the nursery equipment, shop and contents along with the stock of over 10,000 trees and shrubs. The team prepared, detailed and photographed over 3,500 lots which coupled with a dedicated and targeted marketing campaign. The results were exceptional with about £100,000 in bids received and 384 purchasers being successful in their bidding pursuit. Two collection days were held in which 90% of lots were collected after an enormous effort from the team of 12 Stags staff who assisted with the removal of nearly 13,000 individual items. At this scale, a public auction could have had many pitfalls and the team believe that only a small portion of the value would have been achieved, as the audience would have been much more limited when selling only to on-site bidders.

Next, a different type of sale, but with equally pleasing results, saw the contents of a small restaurant in Newton Abbot sold by online timed auction. The items included a range of professional kitchen equipment and dining room furnishings which the team spent two days independently organising, tidying and presenting the lots, while creating a fully illustrated catalogue to represent them online. The Stags team always aims to achieve the highest price possible, but also to represent items fairly and accurately.

A viewing was held, is often encouraged and facilitated by holding a viewing day during the auctions run-time this helps bidders make a judgement on items. Again, specialised marketing including phone calls to other hospitality business in the area, targeted social media posts and the use of the existing database of over 14,000 Stags bidders resulted in 100% clearance and a sale total which far exceeded both the team’s expectations and that of the vendors.
Lastly, a trip to Gloucestershire saw the team take on one of the more challenging sales undertaken in recent years. A huge quantity of equipment, collected and abandoned for over 20 years, meant that the team not only sold the items but were also involved in the preperation. A team of four were assigned to the job where 4 days of sifting, sorting, scrapping and organising allowed them to slowly unearth 1,266 lots in total which had all be stored in a small workshop located on a, now closed, garage forecourt. The lots ranged from nuts and bolts to metal working equipment with some machines weighing over four tonnes each. The logistical challenge of sorting and presenting the seemingly endless array of bygones and equipment in such a small and tight area perfectly demonstrated why, in some cases, a timed auction is the only viable option. Again, successful results were seen and two carefully managed collection days meant that despite the challenges faced all of the equipment, big and small was successfully sold, loaded and made its way to new homes with over 80 different purchasers.

Above are just a few examples of how the online timed auction format can be utilised to not only realise the highest value for an array of assets being sold but also allows organised, methodical and efficient viewing options and collection days removing much of stressful demands holding an auction of any type can have.
