The Stags Agricultural team were kindly asked by Mr Steele of Endsleigh Garden Nurseries in Milton Abbot, Tavistock to conduct a complete dispersal sale of all stock and equipment due to ceasing trading after many years of being in business.
The sale comprised of a total of 3448 lots ranging from compost and many plants, shrubs and trees to tractors and tipping trailers, this was a huge task for the team to organise and prepare, however the Stags team are always up for a challenge and committed to ensuring any sale is presented in the best possible way. Seven team members spent the course of almost two weeks sorting all stock and equipment throughout the site and the sale was ready to go live on the 8th April 2024. Its safe to say that those members of the team are now very much brushed up on their Latin!
Due to the size of the sale, we made the decision to split the sale in to three categories; Tractors, trailers, shop and general equipment (375 lots), shrubs and plants (1526 lots) & trees (1555 lots) this was to ensure that the sale was as easy as possible for prospective purchasers to digest.
The online auction ran for a total of 8 days and the sales began closing at 1pm starting with the tractors and general equipment followed by the shrubs and plants and then the trees.
Throughout the three auctions, over £100,000 bids were placed, although not all were successful with over 135,500 catalogue views. Many enquiries were made and bids placed by long standing customers of Mr Steele’s who were sad to see the closing of Endsleigh Garden Nurseries and they certainly showed their support throughout the bidding time.
Top prices saw a 1964 Massey Ferguson 35x 2wd tractor reach £6,710.00 followed by another Massey Ferguson, this time a 165 2wd tractor which achieved £4,675.00 and the 2021 Fleming TR4 tipping trailer reaching £3162.50. I am sure both the tractors and the trailer, were an integral part of the day to day duties at the nurseries with the site spanning over a large area of land.
The following top prices were very much dominated by a variety of Acer trees including Palmatum Majishi reaching £420, Villa Taranto at £389.40, Palmatum Nuresagi at £387.20, Palmatum Koto-ito Komachi achieving £365.20 and finally a Palmatum Burgunely Lace reaching £355.20. A Hamamelis Intermedia Jelena closely followed the afore mentioned at £352.00 with another Koto Ito Komachi achieving £347.50. 5 Danish plant trollies on castor wheels reached £343.20 for the lot and an Acer Palmatum Dissectam ‘Garnet’ saw £343.20 at the close of the sale.
In total there were 384 successful purchasers with over 807 registered bidders and successful buyers came from a variety of areas in the UK including Coventry, Gloucester, Cambridge, Brighton, Swindon as well as more locally in the South West.
