Kingsbridge

A guide to Kingsbridge and the surrounding area

A popular tourist destination, Kingsbridge is the principal market town in the South Hams and has many fine 18th and 19th Century buildings, including the Shambles - or market arcade – as well as an excellent choice of independent shops, several good restaurants and pubs, a cinema and a museum. There are two supermarkets, a cottage hospital, a junior school and a highly-rated (OFSTED) Community College. It is situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty at the head of the estuary and is just six miles from Salcombe, the well-known sailing and yachting centre.

Communications are excellent with the A38 accessed at Wrangaton to the north, providing dual carriageway access to the cathedral and university city of Exeter to the east, with links to the M5 motorway network (J31) and the coastal city of Plymouth to the west.  Combined, these cities have regular inter-city rail services to London Paddington.  There are regular services from nearby Ivybridge and Totnes, in addition, there are regular internal and international flights from Exeter airport, whilst Brittany Ferries operate services to France and northern Spain from the port in Plymouth.
