A guide to Dartmouth and the surrounding area

Known as the jewel of the South Hams, the pretty waterside town of Dartmouth is a popular boating centre, boasting a world famous regatta and an assortment of cultural events each year. Steeped in history, Dartmouth's narrow streets and cobbled lanes contain an abundance of chic boutiques and galleries, as well as assorted gourmet restaurants, delicatessens, pubs and cafés.

Keeping guard above the town is the world renowned Britannia Royal Naval College, designed and built in 1902 by the distinguished architect Sir George Aston Webb. The port has approximately 2,800 moorings and the river is navigable from Dartmouth right up to the weir at Totnes.

For those who travel and commute, Exeter has an international airport (approximately 40 miles away), Plymouth has a ferry terminal (around 30 miles), while Devon's comprehensive rail network includes road links to the M5 motorway, giving easy access to the rest of the UK and Europe.
