Traditional farm with an abundance of charm and appeal sells in Somerset

Farms with such abundance of charm and special appeal as Washers Farm are rarely available to purchase, so when Stags Farm Agency received instruction to offer the farm for sale on behalf of the sellers, it was always going to be a particular sales highlight for the team.

Launched to the market in June 2020 with a guide price of £2,000,000 (as a whole), Washers Farm is one of few within the parish of Raddington and totals approximately 218.31 acres (88.37 hectares). With land lying on either side of a private valley, the farm is sits within a ring fence and includes a range of traditional stone barns and more modern style buildings. The land is mainly down to grass with pockets of woodland providing opportunity for a farm shoot.

The farm has been under the ownership of the current family since 1971 and up until that point, it had previously been owned since 1719 by a different family.

Originally, there was a Manor House dating back to the 1300s at the site of Washers Farm, Moorhouse Manor, however, the current house was rebuilt at the end of the 19th century and renamed Washers after the owners at that time.

With levels of demand for residential property in the West Country at extraordinary levels, Stags Farm Agency department have found that the same can be said for the market for farms and this sale was no exception to this with 22 separate viewings from both lifestyle and farming buyers, before a sale was agreed on the farm as a whole.

Andrew Dodds of Stags who handled the sale commented ‘The combination of a private location, characterful house and fine setting, combined with over 200 acres and good accessibility to Exmoor, Taunton and the M5 had a wide appeal.’

There are buyers who missed out on Washers Farm that are still looking for farms with 100 to 300 acres within easy reach of Tiverton and Taunton.
