Teignbridge District Council Publishes Important Review of Local Planning Policy for the period 2020 – 2040 – Act Now to have your voice heard

Teignbridge District Council are presently undertaking an important review of planning policy that will cover how planning is approached in the period to 2040. It is essential for property owners to act now if they wish to have their voice heard, in particular with regard to potential sites for housing and employment.

Firstly, the Council have now published details of the sites which they are considering allocation for housing and employment development. If you have land which is being considered it is important to continue to advance it to make sure it is given full and fair consideration before the allocated sites are finalised. Alister Smith of Stags Planning department reports a council will always identify more sites than required and it is all too easy for sites to fall by the wayside if landowners do not make proper representations.

Secondly, the Council are launching another call for possible employment and housing sites, therefore if you have not presented your site before it is not too late. In particular the Council have specifically requested landowners to help identify a supply of ‘smaller sites’ of between 0.3 and 2 hectares which could be suitable for housing development and such sites need to be in or adjacent to an existing settlement with at least basic facilities. Alister reports that if you have a site meeting such criteria it is well worth putting forward as the Council have an obligation to deliver at least 10% of housing provided on smaller sites. This specific request suggests insufficient sites have come forward thus far.

This consultation ends on the 14th August and the longer you have to prepare the better - so act now!
