188 STORE & GRAZING CATTLE

A useful entry of 188 Cattle and 325 Sheep at their annual December Fair sale. Trade was
again good for both the Suckled Calves and Store Cattle, especially the Suckled Calves with
more buyers around the ring than the previous sales.

Prices topped at £1160 in the Store Cattle section for 20mo Limousin x steers from Messrs W H & M Tucker, Brentor; who also had 19mo South Devon steers to £1140. The same vendor also topped the heifer section at £990 for 20mo Limousin x and £950 for 19mo British Blue x.
Other notable Store Cattle prices included £960 for 2 20mo South Devon steers from Mr J Cossens, Peter Tavy; £880 for 4 21mo Galloway x steers from Mr Tom Roskilly, Peter Tavy;   790 for 2 18mo Charolais x heifers from Messrs J G Mortimore & Son, Chagford; £730 for 19mo Limousin x heifer from Mr B H Rowse, Peter Tavy; £695 for 2 14mo Saler x steers from Messrs Skelly, Wotter and £650 for 2 15mo Simmental x heifers from Mr W J Mudge Callington.

In the Suckled Calves prices topped at £660 for 8mo Charolais x steers from Mr L C Branfield, Princetown who was selling at the December Fair Sale for the 31st year in a row! Closely followed at £650 for 2 8mo Hereford x steers from Mr M H Northmore, Horrabridge. Suckled Calf heifers sold to £515 for 3 7mo South Devon heifers from Mr D Wallis, Sampford Courtenay; followed at £510 for 2 8mo Charolais x from Mr M H Northmore, Horrabridge; then £500 for 3 9mo South Devons from Mr K J Watson, Postbridge; and £490 for 2 pens of 6 7mo Charolais x from Mr L C Branfield, Princetown.

The day started with the Mature Cattle which sold to £570 for a 16yo Limousin x cow(Non FABBL) from Miss L D Moore Launceston. Then followed the Breeding Cattle which topped at £1020 for a Pedigree 5 yo South Devon Cow with her 3½ month old South Devon heifer calf at foot from Messrs N A & M F Holt-Martyn, Tavistock.

325 STORE LAMBS & GRAZING EWES

In the sheep pens 168 store lambs and 128 grazing ewes were presented alongside a small entry of breeding ewes. Store lambs sold to a competitive trade with more buyers present
than at previous sales. Top of the day at £59 twice; the first for Mr G Martin of Mary Tavy and
the second to Mr P Turner of Camborne. Further pens from Mr Martin & Mr Turner rose
to £57.50 & £57 respectively. £55 to Grey Face Dartmoors from Mr Graham Cundy of Lamerton with £53 to a pen from Mr HT Davis of Chagford.

Topping the grazing ewes at £61.50 for a pen of Texel x from Mr CDT Sobey of St Giles on
the Heath whose second pen of Suffolks followed closely at £60. £58 to Cheviots from
Mrs J Littlejohns of Peter Tavy. The next sale of Store/Breeding cattle and final sale of Suckled Calves; and special sale of Store Lambs and Grazing Ewes is January.
