Stags Auctioneer Ben Slawson Crowned National YFC Auctioneering Champion
Stags is delighted to announce that Auctioneer Ben Slawson has been crowned National YFC Auctioneering Champion at this year's National Federation of Young Farmers' Clubs (NFYFC) finals.
Representing Culm Valley Young Farmers' Club, Ben competed against some of the country's most talented young auctioneers, demonstrating exceptional skill, confidence, and professionalism to secure the national title. The award recognises the very best young auctioneering talent from across England and Wales, making it a significant achievement within the agricultural industry.
Ben is a key member of the Stags Auctions Sales team and has become a familiar face across the firm's livestock markets, as well as on the field for machinery and equipment auctions, since joining the business in 2022. Regularly attending farm sales, inspecting machinery for online auctions and working closely with customers throughout the region, he plays an integral role in the day-to-day success of the department.
His responsibilities include handling operations at the Honiton Collection Centre and auctioneering at Tavistock Livestock Centre and South Molton Market. Ben is known for his enthusiasm, strong communication skills, and approachable manner, and has built an excellent reputation among both colleagues and clients.
The NFYFC Auctioneering Competition is designed to test a wide range of skills essential to the profession, including clear communication, quick thinking, accuracy and the ability to engage an audience under pressure. Competitors face a demanding environment where they must demonstrate the pace, precision and confidence required of a successful auctioneer.
Reflecting on his victory, Ben encouraged others to embrace the opportunity that the Young Farmers competition provides.
"I'd recommend doing the Auctioneering competition to anyone. As I say, it's just a really good way of getting stuck in and gets you all the way from a little village in Devon all the way up to the bright lights of Stafford.
“Honestly, it's one of those ones that gut instinct and the ability just to stand up and say ‘yes’ will get you so far in this competition, whether you're a professional or farmer or a mechanic."
