An auction held by Stags on 8th December 2016 drew a large crowd to The Dartmoor Lodge Inn at Buckfastleigh. Under the experienced hand of Auctioneer Andrew Luxton, first to go under the hammer was Lot 1 of Nurston Farm, a large farmhouse for renovation, set just outside the South Devon village of Deancombe. With a courtyard of traditional barns, a modern outbuilding and just under 8 acres, Lot 1 offered an array of opportunities. At the fall of the gavel, the price had edged up to £375,000, with the successful bidder being a couple from Hampshire looking for a family home to relocate to with their parents.
Five other lots at Nurston Farm were also put to the room, with the various pasture and woodland lots raising between £4,150 per acre and £8,300 per acre. A modern farm building with a 2.47 acre paddock raised £73,000, well in excess of the auction guide of £25,000 - £50,000.
Lot 7 - a partially converted barn known as Monkey Oak, got off to a slow start but soon hotted up, with some particularly competitive bidding at the end taking the final bid to £405,000. The buyers subsequently chose to accept the option to purchase Lot 8 at £75,000. The final lot of the day, just over an acre of amenity land at Harberton, completed the days tally raising £13,500.
