As of July this year, local authorities will be able to increase fees for planning applications by 20%.
The Government has permitted this increase on the understanding that authorities "commit to invest the additional fee income in their planning department" and ensure that the amount raised through these higher fees will be spent entirely on planning functions.
At a time of stretched local resources Head of Planning Services for Stags, Alister King-Smith, expects most authorities to pledge to make this commitment.
With this in mind, if you are intending to make a planning application soon the time is undoubtedly now.
