Landlords should take advantage of Green Homes Grant

Landlords should take advantage of Green Homes Grant

As a part of the Governments drive to improve the energy efficiency of Let homes the recent Green Homes Grant provides an opportunity for Landlords to make improvements.

Claire Pile MARLA of Stags encourages landlords to assess their properties in advance of the on line application process in September as it is anticipated there will be a large volume of applications.

It is likely the Government will further tighten energy efficiency regulations in 2021 making some of these works essential for rental properties. The grant scheme will fund £2 of every £3 spent up to maximum of £5000 with eligible works including wall and loft insulation, draught proofing and double glazing all of which will improve the energy efficiency of a property.

Landlords are unable to let a property with an energy performance rating of F or G ( unless they qualify for an exemption).

On line applications will be passed to registered local tradesman to carry out the works. As part of the post Covid economic support package it is hoped this will generate a further 100,000 jobs in the Green Sector.

Claire Pile confirms that whilst the full detail of the scheme has yet to be announced it will be important landlords apply quickly as the scheme is only likely to be available for a fixed period. It is one of the very few measures announced over recent months that actually assists landlords!
