Five questions you must ask yourself when searching for a holiday complex

Five questions you must ask yourself when searching for a holiday complex

As the trend for staycationing in the UK becomes increasingly popular, the lure of the wonderful West Country has never been stronger. This growing trend means now is the perfect time to invest in a holiday complex here in the South West.

As we approach the midway point of 2017, we have already sold a staggering 80% more properties compared to this time last year, ranging from three cottage complexes to large touring caravan sites.

Although our core market continues to be early retirees in search of a lifestyle change, we are now beginning to see a shift towards buyers with young families.  This shift is likely to be a result of improved regional internet connection and thus an increased ability to work from home.

Brexit has, at least for now, resulted in the drop in value of Sterling and for expats contemplating a move back to the UK this may prove to be the trigger they need.  Already this year we have sold Holiday Complexes to clients returning from Africa & the Middle East.

If you too are considering investing in a West Country holiday complex, the first thing you must do is ask yourself the following questions:

  • Location – where would you like to live?
Though choosing an area popular among tourists is crucial, don't forget that you have to live there too!

  • Are you looking for a change of lifestyle or a full time business?
How much time do you realistically have to spend on your new venture? Will this be your main income?

  • Have you spoken to an expert with regards to Stamp Duty?
Our Holiday Complexes team will be more than happy to advise.

  • Are you looking for a modern build vs traditional style?
Make sure you weigh up the pros and cons of each and bear in mind factors such as upkeep and planning restrictions on older, more traditional properties.

  • Have you  budgeted for improvements to the property?
These might not become obvious until your business is already up and running.
We at Stags understand the Holiday Complex market in the West Country, which is why our dedicated team is best placed to guide both buyers and sellers. Should you need any advice, please do not hesitate to contact us directly on 01392 680 058 or holidaycomplexes@stags.co.uk
