Cheddarmarsh Farm attracts buyers from across the Southwest

On what turned out to be a day full of sunshine the Stags On Site Sales team travelled to Cheddarmarsh farm, Kingswood, Stogumber, on Wednesday the 28th October to disperse a range of surplus sheep and general farming equipment on behalf of Chris and Jeanette Chilcott. Chris and Jeanette are downsizing and moving to a smaller acreage with stags selling the farm.

On the morning of the sale 280 lots were well presented in the dew soaked grass and people soon started to arrive travelling from every corner of the southwest. By 11.00am over 260 people had registered for a bidding number and many other spectators had gathered around. Despite the challenges and tough year the farming industry is facing there was no sign of this effecting the competitive bidding and hunger for good quality equipment at the sale with the top price on the day being achieved for the IAE Complete Galvanised Handling System including Guillotine & Shedding Gates which auctioneer Chris Clapham sold for £2050.00 to a farmer from Appley, Wellington.

Auctioneer Stafford Sampson was surprised by the £1000.00 price achieved for the Bamford FYM spreader which was purchased by a farmer from Minehead. After the Bamford spreader set the tone later in the day the Vicon 300 Haybob also achieved a strong price of £820.00 and the tidy Hardi NK400 Crop Sprayer sold for £650.00.

Smaller items to mention included the Nilfisk Alto Pressure washer reaching £250.00, following that a well-worn Weeks tipping trailer displayed how looks aren’t everything when it achieved £325.00. Four feed bins were offered on the day with the smallest of the four achieving the greatest price with the 3 tonne Fibreglass Cake bin reaching £400.00 and moving to a farm near Honiton. Lastly two P500 Electric fencers which reached £52.00 and £45.00 respectively met high demand with competitive bidding and both achieved good prices.
