Capital Grants 2026 now open for applications

Capital Grants 2026 now open for applications

The RPA has today opened the 2026 Capital Grants scheme for applications, making £225 million of funding available to support environmental improvements and infrastructure on farms across England.

What you need to know

Increased funding

£225 million of funding is available, an increase of £75 million on 2025. However, if funding is allocated at a similar rate to last year, demand could see the scheme close within a matter of weeks.

Application limit

The RPA will accept one eligible application per business.

What's available

The 80 available items are divided across six funding groups:

  • Boundaries, trees and orchards
  • Improved water quality
  • Improved air quality
  • Improved natural flood management
  • Assessments
  • Improvements

Funding limits

Funding limits continue to apply to four of the item groups:

  • Up to £25,000 for the air quality, natural flood management and water quality groups
  • Up to £35,000 for the boundaries, trees and orchards group

Items within the 'assessment' and 'improvement' groups remain uncapped.

Changes from 2025

Agroforestry items and the woodland condition assessment have been removed from this offer and are expected to become available later in 2026 through the Higher Tier Capital Grants scheme.

TE6: Tree guard (tube and mesh) has been withdrawn and replaced by TE19: Tree guard (narrow weld mesh).

The names and specifications for tree guard items TE7 and TE8 have been updated.

Several new items have been introduced, including:

  • FG13: Stone gateposts
  • TE3: Planting fruit trees
  • TE16: Use tree surgery to ‘hinge’ a tree into a watercourse
  • AC2: Countryside educational access visits accreditation
  • AC3: Install and maintain signage
  • WN12: Create or restore ponds up to 2 hectares

For items requiring Catchment Sensitive Farming Officer endorsement, approval must now be obtained before submitting an application.

Applications are now being accepted

The scheme will remain open until the available funding has been allocated. The RPA will provide updates when 25%, 50% and 75% of the funding has been committed.

Once the scheme closes, no further applications will be accepted, including applications that have been started but not submitted.
