Applications are currently open for the 2022 Basic Payment Scheme, with the deadline being midnight on 16th May 2022 to submit a claim and transfer land parcels and entitlements for the 2022 scheme year. Late applications (with penalties) and amendments to previously submitted claims can be submitted (without penalty) up to 10th June 2022.

It is imperative that your 2022 claim is correct, as 2022 is the last year for the 2020-2022 reference period to qualify for delinked payments. Delinked payments will be made from 2024 in order to simplify the processing of the scheme. To be eligible for delinked payments you must be farming at the end of 2023 and the value of the future payments will be based on an average of your payments between 2020 and 2022. Entitlements will have no function from 2024 and cease to exist.
With the value of the payment set to fall by a further 20% for payments up to £30,000 in value in 2022, it is worth considering some of the existing environmental schemes as an alternative income source:
1. Mid-Tier and Wildlife Offers
Deadline for applications is 29th July 2022 for a 5-year agreement commencing on 1st January 2023
2. Capital Grants
Open all year for applications. Up to £20,000 each for boundary items, water quality and air quality. 2-year capital grant with payment following completion of the works.
3. Sustainable Farming Incentive 2022
Applications expected to open early summer, with further details to come.
