Applications now open for the Green Homes Grant Scheme

The UK Government announced on the 30th September that applications for the Green Home Grant Scheme which allows landlords and homeowners to apply for a grant of up to £10,000 towards the cost of making homes more energy efficient have opened.

Andrew Luxton MRICS FARLA, Partner in charge of Stags Residential Lettings Department confirmed that on the 8th July 2020 the UK Government announced the Green Home Grant Scheme for landlords to help make their property more energy efficient.  Under the scheme landlords and home owners in England can apply for a voucher to fund at least two thirds of the cost of hiring trades people to upgrade the energy efficiency of their homes up to a maximum contribution of £5,000 or up to £10,000 for lower income households.

The aim of the Green Home grant is to upgrade over 600,000 homes across England, with the UK government saying that this will save households hundreds of pounds a year on their energy bills.  The scheme is now open for applications.

Andrew Luxton further confirms that this is an ideal opportunity for landlords to take advantage of the grant scheme in order to improve the energy efficiency of their let properties and ensuring future compliance with minimum energy performance certificate requirements.  In addition, it helps tenants to save heating and running costs.  To apply, visit the gov.uk website at www.gov.uk/apply-green-homes-grant
