Andrew Lawes joins Stags Professional Services team

A well-respected chartered surveyor and land agent has joined the Cornish team of Stags.

Andrew Lawes has been appointed head of Stags Professional Services team in Cornwall.

Andrew is a Chartered Rural Surveyor and member of the National Association of Estate Agents, an experienced land agent and a board member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors regional board.

Alex Rew, managing partner of Stags, said: “We are delighted that Andrew has joined us. He is an experienced and well-respected professional with a wide knowledge base. His expertise will be ideally suited to our broad client base of farmers and property owners throughout Cornwall.

“Andrew has a wealth of experience of landlord-tenant relationships gained over the years. This will give opportunities for both landlords and tenants needing assistance or advice with agricultural matters, rent reviews, lettings and so on.”

Andrew Lawes said: “I am really excited about adding value to the breadth of rural professional services already offered by Stags and continuing to grow Stags’ estate management services in Cornwall.”

Andrew has a sound knowledge of valuation work and practice, said Alex Rew. “He can provide formal valuations for all purposes including probate, capital gains tax, expert witness including matrimonial as well as secured lending.”

Andrew started his working life as a quantity surveyor before pursuing his lifelong ambition of seeking a professional role in the countryside. He studied at Harper Adams Agricultural University for an honours degree in Rural Enterprise and Land Management, graduating in 1996. Afterwards, he moved to North Wales where he embarked on a career as a land agent working for the National Trust.

Over the next 20 years this involved rural estate management of diverse and at times complex Trust portfolios across North Wales, the Lake District, Wiltshire, Dorset, Somerset and most recently Cornwall. In Cornwall, Andrew was the rural surveyor for 8,000 acres including North Cornwall, Lanhydrock and Cotehele for the National Trust.

In 2016 Andrew entered private practice estate agency in South Cornwall as a Property Services Manager, later joining Cornish rural agents Lodge and Thomas.

Andrew will be providing a range of professional services to Stags’ clients, including valuation, landlord and tenant work and wider estate management advice. He lives with his wife and four children in south east Cornwall and when not working he enjoys exploring the county with his family and indulging in a spot of photography.
