A successful first on-site sale of the year at Lerwill Farm in Chittlehampton

After several very successful online dispersal sales since the start of 2022, the Stags On Site Sales team are pleased to report the successful first on-site sale of the year at Lerwill Farm in Chittlehampton, near South Molton. As well as a brilliant turn out on the day, the weather did not fail to spoil us showing signs of Spring! There were 215 lots in the sale field and 45 of them being offered via webcast, online live bidding. The full dispersal sale of five tractors, farm machinery, trailers, attachments and general equipment managed to attract a busy crowd in the field! As well as this, 159 individuals registered online to take part in the bidding. In addition, the online sales catalogue managed to capture 2,026 views! Buyers were mostly local, however, there were buyers from Somerset, Cornwall, Gloucestershire and Bristol.

Top price achieved on the day was the 2009 John Deere 6530 Premium 4WD tractor. With 7,590 hours on the clock, TLS front suspension, power quad and gearbox as well as being complete with a John Deere 651 loader, it did not fail to catch the attention of those at the sale. After numerous bids, the tractor finally sold for £35,000 to a buyer in Cornwall. Not far behind was the not-so-old 2020 McConnel PA65 70T Hedgetrimmer. Being bought new on the farm and coming complete with a 1.7m head, 3-point linkage a-frame as well as a joystick and electric controls and screen, bidding was not delayed. The hammer went down for £17,500 to an on-site local buyer. Bordering this price was the other John Deere in the sale being the 2003 John Deere 6520 4WD Tractor. With 16,985 hours on the clock, Power Quad gear box and being complete with Chilton front linkage, the tractor did not fail to grasp bids from the on-site and online crowd. The tractor sold for £15,750 before going home to another local buyer. The next best price reached during the auction was the Protech P400S Contractor Post Rammer. Popular with bidders and gaining 31 bids alone, the hammer finally went down for the price of £7,700 to a gentleman in Lifton.

Other notable prices made during the auction include the 1986 David Brown/Case 1294 Tractor. With 3,316 hours showing on the clock, the tractor caught the eye of several on-site bidders. Selling at a final price of £5,200, the tractor went to a new home in Combe Martin. From a local outside entry to a local buyer, the Massey Ferguson 135 was the next best price made during the sale for £4,000. Coming away from tractors, one of the two Dowdeswell ploughs offered during the auction, the DP7E 5F Reversible 16” model, was another item which made a substantial price on the day. Having done little work and being complete with double land wheels, it made £3,300 to an on-site buyer from Filleigh, Barnstaple. The other plough which was the DP7-8 5F reversible plough, this time being an outside entry was the next best price achieved at £2,700. Another piece of farm machinery, the Lely Power Harrow also made £1,600 during the auction and was purchased by an online buyer from Exeter. Returning to tractors, the David Brown/Case 1290 4WD tractor was not far behind. Believed to have originated from the 1980s, it managed to go under the hammer for £1,400 to another online buyer from Bristol.
