Whitchurch School triumph at Goose Fair Open Day

Whitchurch School triumph at Goose Fair Open Day As part of this year’s open day at Tavistock Livestock Centre, Stags held a decorated goose competition with the winning school being awarded a cash prize of £100.

Whitchurch Primary School, St Peters Junior School, St Rumons Infant School, Mary Tavy and Brentor Community Primary School and Meavy Primary School all took part in the competition with the resulting geese displayed on Goose Fair day itself to guide visitors through the town to the market site. The colourful array of geese was a real spectacle, decorating both Pixon Lane and Whitchurch Road and many visitors commented on the excellent job the children had done.

Stags would like to thank all of the children who took part in the competition; judging them was not an easy feat! The winning class, Year 6 from Whitchurch Primary School, was presented with the cheque for £100 on the day.

Stags would also like to thank the organisers of the event who put on a real mix of entertainment. This included the Dartmoor Hill Pony Display team, who provided a quiz for children, plus plenty of livestock to pet including sheep from Greenwell Farm and hounds from Spooners and West Dartmoor Hunt. On top of this, there were several local businesses selling delicious food and impressive craft. The annual auction of poultry was held at 2pm and with more than 50 lots entered, geese were sold at £32 per bird and Welsummer hens were sold at £24 per bird.

Thank you to everyone who took part – we look forward to seeing you all at next year’s event!
