Stags Property Auctioneers: 2022 in review

Stags auction department confirms that the popularity of selling property by auction remained strong throughout 2022 and continues into 2023. With over 60 lots of property sold by auction last year and good entries received this year it is a trend that is likely to continue as vendors increasingly look for certainty in an increasingly uncertain market.

The year started with the successful sale of The Old Gate House. A two-bedroom detached cottage for renovation in the popular Devon village of Chittlehamholt. With a vast amount of interest and some frantic bidding the property sold for £340,000, 4.6% over the guide price.

Many agricultural land lots were sold to include 16.15 acres of land near Creedy Bridge, Crediton. With over 100 bids, this sought after land sold for £209,000, an impressive 62% above the guide price.

Auction attracts a range of property, including projects such as South View Barns. Two barns for residential conversion, near Porthtowan, a few miles outside of Truro in Cornwall. Complete with “Class Q” approval, the barns were offered for sale in two lots. Attracting well over 100 bids, with frantic bidding the barns sold for £264,850.

2022 closed with the sale of Sea Horses near Hope Cove in South Devon. An exciting renovation project, set in an elevated position with stunning panoramic sea and coastal countryside views. With a number of viewings booked, the property attracted a huge volume of interest. On auction day over 30 bids were placed, culminating in a sale price of £1,023,000, 85% above the guide price.

Selling by auction remains a popular method of sale, with competitive bidding, flexibility and overall certainty for all parties involved. The popularity of the online route remains very strong but for those preferring to sell their property via a traditional in the room method this is still something that can be offered by one of Stags property auctioneers throughout the region.
