Market update: The tides may be turning, but demand for waterside property remains strong.

James Baker, partner and head of waterside, discusses the current property market and touches on some notable sales from 2023.

With interest rates rising, the property market has certainly showed some signs of slowing this summer; however, for prime waterside property, demand still outstrips supply.

There have been many success stories from all around the South West coastline.  Most notably, properties for sale in cornwalla property at Cornwall, which our Wadebridge office brought to the market in the spring. The clifftop home is located within Porthcothan, a village in a designated area of outstanding natural beauty with access to the South West Coast Path. This culminated in buyers bidding competitively for the property before an offer from a cash buyer was agreed at the start of May, with contracts exchanging soon after. 

In South Devon, our Kingsbridge office launched a property in Torcross, which offered beautiful views across properties for sale in DevonSlapton Ley and out to the sea. The purchasers grew up close to the sea and wanted their children to have similar experiences.  They fell in love with the property immediately and knew that their children would be very happy there, especially as they were just a short stroll to the water.

In the West, our Truro office launched an energy efficient contemporary home in Feock, with a guide price of £1.5m. Waterside properties for sale The property benefited from south easterly views across Pill Creek and soon attracted a significant number of viewings before being agreed close to the guide price.

Another unique coastal home was launched by our Bridport office in Charmouth, Dorset. Offered at a guide price of properties for sale in dorset£800,000, the property enjoyed panoramic sea views with ​​​​​​​grounds of two acres. It attracted a very high amount of interest, with several competing offers, eventually being agreed over the guide price.
