Stags support the ARLA housing manifesto

Andrew Luxton MRICS FARLA, Partner in Charge of Stags Residential Lettings Department welcomes the recent publication of the ARLA and NAEA Housing Manifesto for 2015.

The document detailed three key areas in which the organisation believes action is needed to improve the UK housing market.  These are addressing issues concerning lack of supply, improved regulation of lettings and sales and “appropriate” taxes across the whole property market.

Andrew Luxton confirms that the rental sector is currently a “two tier” market made up of agents who operate to professional standards and those who fail to do so.  He claimed tenants often struggle to tell the difference between the two and this problem needs to be solved through improved regulation and ultimately licencing.

Greater regulation for letting agents in particular will ensure fairness, a level playing field and removal of those agents who bring the industry in to disrepute.  The other key area is how to address the current crisis in the supply of housing.  As a country we are not building enough homes to meet the burgeoning demand from both the sales and private rented sectors.

As a firm Stags are licenced members of ARLA, the RICS and hold and administer all deposits in accordance with the TDS.  Whether you are a tenant looking to rent or a landlord letting out your property it is vital you ensure you protect yourself by using a suitably approved and licenced agent.
