Online auction success

Online auction success

As many of you will know, Stags recently conducted its first online timed auction, dispersing the contents of the historic Stag Inn, Rackenford through the Stags website. As the value of the contents was not particularly high and the property was not large enough to host an auction of the traditional fashion, this seemed the perfect opportunity to trial this new method.

The sale attracted astounding interest and was viewed online by more than 1,000 people during its 10-day duration. Nearly all items offered were sold with many prices exceeding the expectations of both the vendors and ourselves.

This method was both time and logistic friendly and its success outlines the importance of being able to offer this service to our future clients. Online auctions offer both valuers and auctioneers another option to consider when assessing how to disperse items that for any number of reasons may not be suitable for a traditional auction.

An online dispersal can offer the following benefits to our vendors:

-An alternative sales method

-Tailored to suit individual needs

-Cost efficient

-National and potentially global exposure

-Convenient and flexible

-More control to vendors

-No  location or transportation logistics

-Specialised marketing for specialised items

All of the above are benefits that an online dispersal can offer a client, and although it is in its very early stages we feel there is potential for an increased number of sales to be conducted in this fashion. Together with the usual one vendor dispersal sale, the platform also offers the opportunity for collective sales to be held in the future, facilitating numerous items in numerous locations being offered for sale in one place in a time and cost efficient manner.
