New permission in principle for brownfield sites

New permission in principle for brownfield sites

A new Planning Permission in Principle (PPIP) order will be enacted later this year for land contained in a brownfield register.

By December 2017, every council should have a brownfield register that lists all sites considered suitable for housing-led development by the local authority.

However, sites listed on the register are not automatically granted permission for development; applications must first obtain Technical Details Consent, which will consider the detailed design and ensure any mitigation measures are appropriately enforced.

As each site will have been considered by the council in accordance with policies and consulted on with stakeholders, the order will give developers more certainty when submitting a planning application.
