Land rental market stands strong

Land rental market stands strong

How is the West Country land rental market faring through these uncertain times?

Stags brought to the market 246 acres of pastureland with a small range of modern farm buildings in the autumn of 2017, which was being offered for rent on a six-year Farm Business Tenancy

Blocks of this size rarely come to the open market for rent and as such it was difficult to know quite how this was going to be received, given the issues that farmers now face when looking ahead to the future.

With the ambiguity surrounding the Basic Payment Scheme, future environmental subsidies, trade agreements and the consequential knock-on effect to commodity prices, it was an uncertain time for all involved.

However, when marketing this property it was clear that there is still a strong apetite for farmers to increase the size of their holdings, whether that's to benefit from economies of scale to to introduce new income streams to preserve business resilience.

In total, stags received 14 tenders across the three lots and hte rental value achieved was competitive, given the nature of the ground and the lack of Basic Payment entitlements to run with the land.

The network of farmers within the Stags database provides an excellent starting point for marketing, coupled with our extensive presence in local, regional and national publications, led for a very competitive tender process.

If you are considering your options in this current climate, renting should certainly not be the last resort and Stags can help guide you through this process.
