Countryside Stewardship: are you missing a trick?

Countryside Stewardship: are you missing a trick?

If you have an expired Entry Level Stewardship agreement, or have never considered environmental stewardship before, now is definitely the time to engage and consider all the options.

While the paperwork has increased and the days of easy government money are long gone, there are still some excellent opportunities to add a new income stream, improve the holding with capital grants and provide environmental benefits.

So what is it worth? Instead of paying a flat rate per acre, the structure is based around the benefits you are providing and as such each agreement will differ from the last. The levels, however, are similar to those under the Entry Level Stewardship, with the added bonus of being able to apply for some capital items too.

Lydia Cox of Stags Professional Services highlights, “the trick in the application process is to understand the priority target outcomes for your area and tailor your application to address these themes.”

In order to apply for a start date of the 1st January 2018, application packs have to be sent for in advance of 31st July, with full applications received by 30th September.

For any help or advice with regard to the application process, please do not hesitate to contact Stags Professional Services on 01392 439 046 or email professional@stags.co.uk to be put in touch with your local professional.
