Chris Clapham joins Stags partnership

Chris Clapham, Head of Stags Agricultural Sales, has joined the Stags partnership, bringing the number of partners who run the West Country property company up to nine.

Chris has worked for Stags since 2009 and his main roles are to oversee the running and management of Stags’ three livestock markets as well as the busy on-site and online sales departments. He is responsible for much of the firm’s auctioneering and has instigated excellent growth in Stags’ agricultural sales business in recent years.

On his recent promotion Chris said: “I’m delighted to be joining the Stags Partnership and look forward to building on the many achievements of the Stags Agricultural Department in recent years.”

Chris is a familiar face to many of the farming community in the South West having worked for Rendells in Newton Abbot, Kivells in Liskeard and Ward & Chowen in Tavistock before joining Stags in 2009. The three livestock markets he now runs are geographically well spread being the weekly prime stock markets of South Molton and Honiton, and the store stock market in Tavistock.

Alex Rew, Managing Partner of Stags, added: “We are delighted to welcome Chris into the Partnership. He is a hard, and effective, worker who has performed year on year since joining the Firm.

Last year was certainly a busy one for Stags Agricultural Department. It took over the running of Tavistock’s livestock market, set up the company’s first online sales of machinery and fodder and also established a new West Country Sale Centre site for machinery and other auctions near Cullompton.

Chris said: “We also held some excellent On Site Sales from West Cornwall to Dorset, and the Livestock Market numbers remained strong throughout the year. This year we want to continue building the Agricultural Sales department by getting vendors the best prices for their stock or equipment while also giving them our usual high level of service.”

Chris graduated from Seale-Hayne Agriculture College with a degree in Rural Estate Management and subsequently passed his Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and Central Association of Agricultural Valuers (CAAV) exams to qualify as a Chartered Surveyor and Agricultural Valuer. He also carries out most of Stags’ livestock and machinery valuations. The Markets and On Site Sales team is an important part of Stags’ overall diverse business, and also include sales of grass keep, fodder sales and annual standing straw auctions.

Chris added: “Stags was established in 1874 with agriculture and farming at its heart and we remain committed to the industry today. The acquisition of Tavistock Market, the new West Country Sales Centre near Junction 28 of the M5, and the introduction of online sales will assist us in providing services to our clients in today’s world.”
